Ole Liese was the favourite horse of the Prince of Hessenstein. In memory of this, the village inn was named after him and is now a charming little hotel with a restaurant on the grounds of the Panker estate.
Panker is a small picturesque village ensemble surrounding a stately manor house belonging to the noble family of Hessen in Holstein Switzerland, near Hohwacht Bay. The pretty red brick buildings house galleries, workshops and charming shops selling home and garden accessories, fashion, jewellery and much more.

Those who wish to stop by the "Ole Liese" can not only enjoy excellent food but also an idyllic overnight stay. The 23 rooms and suites are located in a charming 18th-century building complex and are lovingly furnished in the Gustavian style.

The restaurant, named “Restaurant of the Year 2023” by the magazine “Der Feinschmecker,” offers a pleasant blend of down-to-earth pub cuisine with gourmet elements.

I particularly liked the breakfast concept (only for hotel guests during peak season): to reduce food waste, instead of a buffet with leftovers every day that have to be thrown away, the delicious individual breakfast items could be ordered in small portions from the extremely friendly and attentive staff, and reordered as needed. Also waiting on the table were jars of homemade jam and honey from Gut Panker. Many of the vegetables, herbs, and fruits used are grown in the hotel's own 3,000-square-meter kitchen garden. You can taste and see the freshness, for example, when even a small plate of cheese slices is served, decorated with edible flowers and pear slices. Simply good food without too much fuss.

We discovered the hotel by chance on our way back from Denmark and, as always, this article is purely editorial and not paid for.
